What is Integrative Psychiatry? Integrative Psychiatry is a healing approach that uses both conventional medicine and holistic approaches to mental health. "Holistic" comes from the word "whole" affirming that this type of approach embraces all aspects of a person: mind, body, spirit and environment. Prior to the discovery of most recent medications, psychiatrist's interventions typically focused on the role of early childhood experiences and interpersonal relationships (the mind approach). In recent years, the psychiatrists have come to almost exclusively rely on pharmacology as the treatment approach (a brain/body approach). Medications are effective and sometimes necessary, but when treatment is limited to pharmacology, the potential for healing and well being can be limited as well. Dr. Francoise Adan integrates the best modern medicine with the appropriate use of alternative and complementary healing approaches. She combines her tradtional scientific training with the extensive clinicial experience to review and use alternative-treatment modalities. |
